Visiting Jaipur
Having visited many of the famous places in Delhi on my last trip, I really wanted to see other places. I have heard a lot about Rajasthan’s beauty, and Jaipur being well connected to Delhi and relatively close, I made plans with a few friends to go there. We drove there on Saturday and returned on Sunday (photos here). Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Raja Sawai Jai Singh. It is popularly known as the Pink City primarily because the city walls were painted pink, the color of hospitality, for a visit by the Prince of Wales in 1876. It was likely painted pink prior to this also, to emulate the red sandstone of the Mughal structures in other parts of India. The city wall is still pink! I heard that it is repainted every few years with money donated by the (former) royal family.
