Obituary: Pluto
For the first time in history, a planet has been demoted from being a planet to, um, not being a planet. Pluto [1930 - 8/24/2006] was reclassified as a dwarf planet this week by a vote by astronomers. Interestingly, the vote was on the definition of a planet vs. a dwarf planet and not on whether pluto remains in the solar system or not. Clyde Tombaugh will not remain famous anymore. Before there is any confusion, I am going to remove Pluto from the planets hanging from N’s ceiling – and hide it. In a way, Gustav Holst predicted this when he composed The Planets suite – he only went up to Neptune.
