The Scientific Method
On a walk around our neighborhood, Natoosh and I saw two mosquito-like insects sitting on a leaf. She pointed out that it was an insect with two heads. Thinking I would take this opportunity to expound on the scientific method, I told her that I thought that there were two insects. When she insisted that it was one with two heads, I proposed we do an experiment to decide.
I will poke one of the insects with a stick. If only that one flies away, then we know there are two. If both fly away together and are still stuck, it might be one. OK?
I poked. I realized as the insects flew away together, joined at the tail end, that they were mating. Natoosh walked off saying, “See Papa, it is one insect with two heads!”
So much for the scientific method.
