Onno Prashon

Onno-Prashon is a Bangla word which means first taste of solid food (onno: rice, prashon: to start eating). In Bangladesh, babies are traditionally not fed solid food until the age of four to six months, as this is when babies learn to swallow. This was Athena’s first taste of solid food (rice in milk), sitting with Papa, being fed by Dada. It is traditionally held at the grandparents’ house, and the elders in the family have the honor of feeding the rice to the baby. Relatives and friends are all invited to this festive occasion.
